I don't know why I didn't turn it over to Ashley sooner -- I went years letting my problem dictate my life. I'm so relieved by how well the low FODMAP diet went while working with Ashley. Now I can take trips, make morning apts and not have to stress about having accidents. I have also lost a few lbs which I needed to do anyway. I am eating better and not hungry all the time. It's a lifestyle I can have and be happy with. Thank you Ashley for helping me change my life.

I am so happy to have found Ashley. After suffering for years with GI issues I was diagnosed with IBS. I set out to find someone to help me. The GI doctor said to take laxatives the rest of my life. I did not accept that. I found Ashley and she taught me to eat differently and I learned what foods irritated my GI tract. I now feel equipped and empowered to eat healthy and not upset my stomach. I hope others find her to get relief from IBS. I am forever grateful! And she’s such a positive person so it made it fun to go through Fodmap process. Thank you!

Ashley provided outstanding support in helping me learn to manage and eliminate my long-lasting symptoms of gastric distress and IBS. She was incredibly knowledgeable and supportive in guiding me through the process of adopting a low FODMAP diet and then testing my sensitivity to each of the FODMAP foods. She tracked my daily diet and symptoms, suggested adjustments to the plan as needed, and coached me with knowledge that eventually helped me learn how to manage on my own. She shared tools that included dietary tracking apps, FODMAP resources, notes from our sessions together, and helped me create a long-term plan for eating healthier and living without gastric distress. Ashley is an awesome dietitian and a trusted resource.

Living with belly or digestive issues can be demoralizing. It's also easy after a while to just think that it's your lot in life, and there's just really nothing you can do about the problem. I had tried the low FODMAP route before, but on my own, and although I felt pretty confident about my knowledge, it is not an easy program to navigate alone. I started working with Ashley, and with her guidance and support, managed to go through all the phases of the program and see great results. It was not easy, but Ashley was there to teach me, encourage me, guide me, and cheer me up. Her availability to answer my questions, and review my progress was amazing. Her dedication to finding alternatives when my lifestyle (I am vegan) made things difficult was commendable. Ashley is also very easy to interact with, supportive, non-judgmental and offers a perfect combination of support and motivation. I am extremely thankful to have done this program with Ashley as I finally regained peace around nutrition and digestive health.

Working with Ashley was such a joy. I appreciated her sense of humor, flexibility and wealth of knowledge. Ashley helped me sort through my confusion about FODMAPs and gave me invaluable guidance about general nutrition, hydration, and meal planning.

Ready for access to IBS focused dietitians to help you manage your IBS patient care more effectively?

    Yes! Let's Start Today!

    IBS Integrative Care Services!

While improved patient outcomes can be achieved with the Low FODMAP Diet alone, Awakened Actions’ offers IBS integrative care services to support patient success.  As noted above, our approach recognizes that IBS is characterized as a disorder of gut-brain interaction (DGBI) and classified as chronic, primary pain (see ICD-11).

Thus, we offer optional integrative medicine based services to alleviate patient symptoms by focusing on the gut and the brain’s involvement in IBS to truly enhance the opportunity for well-rounded patient care.

Pain Reprocessing Therapy (PRT) for IBS
As part of Awakened Actions’ IBS integrative care services, our Dietitians may recommend combining work on the Low FODMAP Diet with PRT. This combination helps provide better patient outcomes through a deeper understanding of IBS pain, the gut-brain interaction, visceral hypersensitivity, and, ultimately, greater relief from IBS symptoms beyond the Low FODMAP Diet alone.

Why Pain Reprocessing Therapy (PRT)? Research continues to highlight that the gut-brain interaction is a 2-way street. The gut sends signals to the brain (pain, discomfort) and the brain sends signals to the gut (anxiety, stress). Through mind-body solutions for IBS, we can help manage this highway of bidirectional information to further alleviate symptoms. Moreover, IBS pain is categorized as chronic, primary visceral pain — PRT was designed to treat primary pain!

Adam Bradshaw, MS Psychology — Co-Founder, Mindfulness & Pain Psychology Practitioner, PRT Certified Coach
Adam leads efforts to help bring integrative medicine based care to Awakened Actions’ IBS patients. Using PRT – an evidence-based, mind-body medicine approach – Adam helps patients understand the latest in pain science regarding IBS and the new ICD-11 classification of chronic primary visceral pain. This helps patients to successfully overcome the pain fear cycle and manage the gut-brain interaction through a deeper understanding of the role of neurogastroenterology. Core tools from PRT help provide the skills to practice and learn how to overcome the cycle of pain and balance the role of the gut-brain interaction.
