Kelsey Stark has been an excellent provider! She led me through the process of determining which FODMAPs cause my IBS. She provided alternatives to help keep it at bay. My gut has not felt this good in years, and I now know what I can and cannot eat.

She then helped me lose weight by altering my eating habits. I have never in my life been able to do this! She looked at the foods I was eating, told me what I needed to increase and decrease, and offered healthier alternatives.

Throughout both processes she was very encouraging and kept me on track. I am very thankful for the changes she has encouraged in my food choices and am feeling much healthier.

Kelsey was Excellent. She helped me figure out how to get my intestinal tract working better as I have a colostomy bag with diarrhea issues since surgery. People have said to do more fiber but that made the issue worse. With her help starting with the FODMAP approach (it is not a diet!) which helped us determine that wasn't the issue. Fiber was the issue but how much of which types and what supplements. Once that was on track I am on my own for a while- till I need her again. Kelsey is very not-judgemental with great listening skills. She is efficient with communicating what needs to be discussed during an hour or a half hour session. I feel my money was well spent and am hopeful I can maintain this fiber effort.

Working with Kelsey was an incredibly positive experience. I learned so much from her. Her expertise and thoughtful approach made it easy to create a plan that worked for me. Kelsey is a great listener and communicator—she truly makes you feel heard and supported. Her down-to-earth, nonjudgmental vibe creates a space where you feel comfortable opening up. With her guidance, I was able to develop a much better relationship with food. I'm so grateful for her support and genuinely enjoyed our time together.

Did You Know? Awakened Actions’ Integrative Care for IBS!?

While significant relief and increased quality of life can be achieved with a low FODMAP Dietitian alone, Awakened Actions’ offers holistic IBS Therapy, when appropriate. Our approach recognizes that IBS is characterized as a disorder of gut-brain interaction (DGBI) and classified as chronic, primary pain (see ICD-11).

Thus, we offer optional integrative medicine based services to alleviate symptoms by focusing on the gut and the brain’s involvement in IBS.

Pain Reprocessing Therapy (PRT) for IBS
As part of Awakened Actions’ integrative IBS Therapy you would work with Adam. He would provide you with tools to understand and relieve IBS pain through the latest in mind-body medicine and pain science for IBS. The PRT work is collaborative with the work you will do with Kelsey and the Low FODMAP Diet to help provide a deeper understanding of IBS pain and greater relief from symptoms. We are also finding that Phase II of the Low FODMAP Diet tends to be more successful when combined with PRT practices.

Why Pain Reprocessing Therapy (PRT)? Research continues to highlight that the gut-brain interaction is a 2-way street. The gut sends signals to the brain (pain, discomfort) and the brain sends signals to the gut (anxiety, stress). Through mind-body solutions for IBS we can help manage this highway of bidirectional information to further alleviate symptoms. Moreover, IBS pain is categorized as chronic, primary pain — PRT was designed to treat primary pain!

Adam helped me through the hardest year of my life. When a friend recommended Alan Gordon's book "The Way Out," I enthusiastically started practicing PRT. But I soon found myself on a rollercoaster of ups and downs with my neck pain, and a lack of sleep triggered debilitating anxiety. Adam guided me through those challenges with compassion and humor. He seems to intuitively understand what tools will be helpful for each step along my journey, and I know I can always count on him. Thank you Adam, words cannot express my gratitude!

When I initially sought out a pain therapy coach, I was skeptical about the potential results. However, from the very first session, coach Adam instantly put me at ease with his warm and empathetic demeanor. He created a safe and non-judgmental space where I felt comfortable sharing my deepest struggles and pain-related challenges.

Through out sessions, coach Adam provided me with practical tools and strategies to effectively manage and alleviate my pain. From mindfulness techniques to relaxation exercises, he equipped me with a diverse range to coping mechanisms that have had a significant impact on my well-being.

Thanks to coach Adam’s expertise, guidance and unwavering support, I have experienced a remarkable improvement in managing my pain.
